Iconic oversized Patek from the 1970s fitted with the Beta 21 movement, recognised as the very first electronic movement to be produced and sold and was introduced in 1970 at the Basel fair. A collaboration between 20 leading watch brands including Patek and Rolex the Beta 21 is an electronic calibre, utilizing a quartz crystal with a natural oscilation rate of 8192 Hz which Patek then reduced to 256 Hz by means of their proprietary frequency reducer. This allowed the second hand to sweep continously rather than tick like other quartz movements. Due to its outrageously high cost the Beta 21 movement was soon discontinued and as a result very very few examples were produced and fewer have suvived.
